Join DHCG for our Nutty Pie Bake-Off, a seasonal, hands-on learning event where participants explore agriculture, food systems, and baking through a classic pecan pie. During this experience, participants will bake pecan pie using pecans generously donated by a farmer in New Mexico, highlighting the importance of farmer partnerships and the regional diversity of U.S. agriculture.
Participants will learn where pecans come from, how they are grown and harvested, and how agricultural products travel from farms to kitchens. The bake-off format encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity while building practical kitchen skills and an appreciation for whole, farm-sourced ingredients.
The event will conclude with a friendly bake-off and tasting, offering participants the opportunity to share their finished pies, reflect on the learning experience, and celebrate the connection between land, growers, and food.
